Project description:The project is focused on improving the biodegradability of wastewater from the engineering industry. Such waters can include, for example, heavy metals or dyes in addition to the high content of degradable organic materials. Progressive Oxidation Methods (AOP) can oxidize a considerable amount of organic substances due the production of highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (they can also improve sensory properties.) Various types of catalysts derived from waste materials from other industrial processes can be used to improve the oxidation properties while reducing costs. Red mud and black nickel mud will be studied for the purpose of this project, and will be used for the ssorption of dyes or heavy metals, as well as the use of synthetic nanoparticles / nanocomposites for AOP catalysis and heavy metal or dye sorption. The experiments will be carried out on apparatus constructed under the previous project VEGA No. 1/0640/14.
