|Project description:||Each country's economical prosperity is closely related to water availability in its river basins. In almost all of them, all over the world, is the natural hydrological regime of rivers influenced by the human activity. In proposed project, we shall be concerned by the identification of changes in the hydrological regime of rivers in the Danube basin. The first project phase will be aimed at finding out, collecting and verifying data on occurrence of the historical floods and droughts with emphasis on the territory of Slovakia (historical hydrology). Collected data time series will be subject to the thorough statistical analysis. The long natural cycles will be identified, of the wet and dry periods occurrence. Also long-term trends and changes in seasonal occurrence of the various hydrological characteristics will be evaluated. In accordance with Water Framework Directive 2000/60/ES of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, and 2007/60/ES Directive on the flood risk management, extreme flood and drought hydrological scenarios will be elaborated. All this for the probability exceedance of 200 up to 1000 years, for the Slovak territory. We will test the ability of the main existing water reservoirs in Slovakia to regulate the runoff during the scenario conditions. Project achievements should contribute to answering the question whether, and to which extent, hydrological discharge extremes in Slovakia are increasing (higher floods, longer drought periods).|
