Title of the thesis:Regeneration of the ionic liquid used for separation of the tert-butyl alcohol–water azeotropic mixture
Summary:This work is focused on application of ionic liquids as solvents. Extractive distillation process is proposed in the presence of the ionic liquids and a commercial solvent for separation pure tert-butyl alcohol. Three main parts are included in the work: theoretical part, experimental part and calculations. Tert-butyl alcohol properties and basic characteristic of the ionic liquids are mentioned in the beginning of the theoretical part. Description of vapour - liquid equilibrium and thermodynamic consistency tests are explained. The extractive distillation process principle is explained and suggested methods of solvent regeneration are discussed. Main attention is given for the falling film evaporator. The experimental part is based on verifying the possibility of ionic liquid regeneration by falling film evaporator. Optimal operational conditions are tested (temperature, pressure, feed flow) and purity of regenerated ionic liquid is checked. Two imidazolium based ionic liquids are tested. Also vapour - liquid equilibrium predictions are improved for binary systems containing both ionic liquids with tert-butyl alcohol, water respectively (measurements of boiling curves). Coefficients of NRTL equation of all measured binary systems are evaluated. Also thermodynamic consistency test are applied for all binary systems. Experimental results are used for separation process proposal at calculation part of the work. Process scheme and unit operations are proposed. Next the optimization is performed. Evaluated process parameters in the presence of all solvents are compared. Solvent regeneration is analyzed. Energy consumption is evaluated at the end of the work. According to comparison and results, the best concept is suggested.
